Helping Students with Financial Difficulties
Few people realize that approximately 40% of the children in the BCSD qualify for the Federal Free and Reduced lunch program, an indicator of poverty. These children have financial needs that limit their educational opportunities. The Can Do Fund pays for any required, school-related expense. In the past, this fund has been used to pay for instruments for band/orchestra, Advanced Placement test fees, dual high school/college credit, health insurance for the ski program, art material activity fees and many others.
The Can Do Fund is administered through the school secretaries, school counselors and social workers. All requests are reviewed and approved by the Principal. The BCEF does an internal review to ensure that the request is consistent with our guidelines. All requests are confidential.
The Can Do Fund does not pay for items such as year books, parking fees, and student travel.
