Blaine County Education Foundation to Fund More Free School Lunches

BCEF raising funds for students

The federal government has a cut off of $41,000 and that is for a family of four. And so if a family of four earns more than that, they would not qualify for federal free meals,” Van Law said.

“We have many working families who work full-time jobs. Both parents, they may have second and third jobs to supplement income and just be able to pay rent and other bills here,” Van Law said. This has left many families unable to afford school lunches. Full KMVT article

Blaine County non-profit seeks funds for student meals

Our goal is to raise $300,000 to provide school meals to hundreds of children over the next three years. We want to ensure every child has access to school meals. It’s challenging to learn when you’re hungry.

BCEF commits up to $300,000 to extend school meal funding for Blaine County students

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress made school meals free to all children nationwide, regardless of family income.

In 2022, the federal government ended the school meal support for all students and returned to providing free meals only to children of families whose annual income was under $39,000 for a family of four.

Blaine County Education Foundation teams with Cox for the 2025 Scholarship Fair

Students and their parents are invited to attend Blaine County Education Foundation’s 4th Annual Scholarship Fair on Thursday, Feb. 6. The fair, sponsored by Cox Communications, will be held from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in the Wood River High School Commons.

Representatives from organizations offering more than 40 scholarships will be on hand to talk to families about scholarship criteria. Students may also register for a chance to win a $500 scholarship.

BCEF Receives Generous $40,000 Donation From Sun Valley Tour de Force

The Sun Valley Tour de Force gave the Blaine County Education Foundation a very generous gift of $40,000 in December 2024.

Deborah Van Law, executive director of the Blaine County Education Foundation, said that Sun Valley Tour de Force has provided vital funding to pay for school meals.

“Meeting this critical need means students can engage in learning. This $40,000 grant will enable us to strengthen programming that provides financial support for students in need, classroom and schoolwide resources and scholarships for our graduating seniors, reaching more than 2,000 kids each year.” –

BCEF Receives 2nd Place in Sun Valley’s Gingerbread Contest for Non-Profits. The Award is a Generous $2,000 Donation

The houses were on display during Sun Valley’s third annual Gingerbread House Contest at their Winter Wonderland Festival. 

Cash prizes were awarded to the top three winners, which included The Sage School and The Idaho Mavericks. BCEF will be receiving a $2,000 donation for winning 2nd place from Sun Valley.

Lisamarie Ault, Barb Leslie, and Jen Lavingne spent more than 40 hours building the gingerbread house for the BCEF. Ault is a chef and Leslie is an artist.   Read Full Eye on Sun Valley Article
