Hailey, ID – Blaine County Education Foundation (BCEF) and Wood River Middle School (WRMS) would like to acknowledge Domino’s for supporting literacy in school! BCEF supports WRMS library with incentives to encourage students and foster a love for reading and literacy. In January BCEF awarded WRMS a grant to start a student advisory committee where students select graphic novels for their peers to enjoy. The BCEF grant inspired the WRMS library to apply for a National Grant through the American Association of School Libraries (AASL), and they chose WRMS to receive the 2022 AASL Innovative Reading Grant. Mrs. Mora, the WRMS librarian, used the Reading Grant to inspire students to embrace reading and literacy.
BCEF approached local Domino’s owner, Kymnbel Bywater, to help reward WRMS students for their efforts and successes around literacy. Domino’s support of three literacy celebrations reinforces a love of reading and literacy.
- This year, 35 students participated in the Young Reader’s Choice Awards program and read at least four recommended books. They’ll get to vote on their favorite books, receive prizes, and eat delicious pizza at the annual voting party.
- Almost fifty students have completed the Idaho Teen Reading Challenge and by reading at least 8 books since October. Students had the chance to win prizes and will celebrate with a pizza party in May.
- This year, 9 student teams with forty students and one faculty team competed in the Idaho Battle of the Books. One of the teams won the state competition. We are excited to celebrate their dedication to reading with a pizza celebration and awards ceremony.
Thanks to Domino’s for supporting reading and literacy at WRMS!
